Announcement: MUSHROOM WALK LED BY WVU PROFESSOR OF MYCOLOGY DR. DAN PANACCIONE,
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 19th, 2009, AT 9:00 A.M., AT THE WEST VIRGINIA BOTANIC GARDEN.
Dan
will tell us how to identify the native mushrooms at the garden by
their unique characteristics. Come enjoy and learn about the bright
colored (and less bright colored) mushrooms and their value in our
environment!
All ages are welcome.
Attendees should wear hiking footwear, preferably waterproof.
The WVBG is located on Tyrone Road between Snake Hill Road and Route 7.
The entrance gate will be open to allow parking at the lower parking lot.
Due to the popularity of this walk in the past, you are encouraged to be early or at least prompt.
About the Walk Leader
Dan Panaccione is a Professor of Mycology in the Division of Plant and Soil Sciences. He teaches
classes in Mycology, Genetics, and Fungal Physiology. His research is on genes
and biochemical pathways involved in fungal toxin production and on the
biological effects of the toxins. He has been on the faculty at WVU since 1992.
His PhD was from Purdue University and has a BS from University of Massachusetts.
