West Virginia Botanic Garden

We are neighbors with the Mason-Dixon Gun Club. The sound of gunfire from their range is commonplace.

When are we open?

The WVBG is open 365 days a year, from dawn to dusk.

From I-79 go north/south to I-68. Take Exit 4, and turn east on State Route 7, toward Kingwood about 2 miles where you will come to Tyrone Road on your left. The WVBG is about 2 miles up Tyrone Road on your right.

Where do you park?

The lower parking lot  is also generally open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m in the fall/winter months and 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the spring/summer.  The lower parking lot will also be open for scheduled events.

At other times access is limited to those who can hike down the road into the Botanic Garden from the upper parking lot beside Tyrone Road.  The upper and lower parking lots are about 500 yards apart, and you can access the Garden by walking down the main road or our new Hillside Trail.

Admission to the Garden is free, but donations are welcome.

A $5 donation per adult visitor is requested. Donations can be made on-site at the kiosk near the lower parking lot, or online.

The West Virginia Botanic Garden at Tibbs Run Preserve is a non-profit organization.  Help us continue to provide programs and free access to the community.

There are over four miles of trails at the West Virginia Botanic Garden at Tibbs Run Preserve. All the trails are interconnected, enabling you to make your walk as long or short as you would like.

How do I find my way around the Garden?

There are printed maps available in the information kiosk near the lower parking lot.  The older trails are also visible on Google Maps and the West Virginia Trail Inventory.

We have several gardens around the property, with varying degrees of formality and peak blooming times.  Get more information on each garden.

What's happening at the Garden?

There are a variety of educational and recreational programs at the West Virginia Botanic Garden year-round.  See if they coincide with your visit to the Garden.

(Pre-registration is strongly suggested for all programs, and required for many. Read program descriptions for details.)

Is the West Virginia Botanic Garden family friendly?

That would be a resounding ‘Yes!’  The West Virginia Botanic Garden offers many children’s programs throughout the year including educational workshops, camps, festivals and more!
