Families & Kids

Children love spending time outside in nature. The open spaces, endless plant and animal life to take in and explore, and constant sensory input is hard to beat. At the WVBG, there are many opportunities for children to engage their sense of wonder in the natural world.

Children’s Adventure Garden

The Children’s Adventure Garden provides an area specially designed for Children to interact with Nature.  The CAG is located near the Education Center, just off the Reservoir Loop Trail.

Fairy Garden

Check out our Fairy Garden in Tibbs Run Preserve along the Forest Loop Trail.  Enjoy little homes built by other visitors or make one of your own, but please be respectful of the forest and follow the posted rules.

Fall Children’s Festival

The West Virginia Botanic Garden’s Annual Fall Children’s Festival typically takes place in early October. Bring the family for an afternoon of delight, including fairy house building, seasonal crafts, and delicious refreshments. There may even be some special guests of the four-legged or winged variety. This festival has proven to be a community favorite and grows in popularity and attendance each year.

Summer Nature Camp

We offer a variety of five-day summer camps for children ages four to fourteen where they will learn about, explore, and immerse themselves in the natural world around them.

Labyrinth

Wind down with some quite time at our enchanting labyrinth. This tranquil space invites visitors to wander its winding paths, encouraging reflection and mindfulness.

Other Ongoing Programs

Throughout the year, we offer many other one-day workshops for children. See our current activities schedule for upcoming events.

Another great way for children to learn and explore at the Garden is through a school field trip. Ask your child’s teacher to contact us to set one up!
